The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse
A town mouse visited her country cousin, who served plain wheat, roots, and water. The town mouse ate politely but sparingly, then spent the evening describing the glamour of city life. That night the country mouse dreamed of it and agreed to visit. In the city mansion, they found a banquet of pastries and cheeses — but a cat’s mewing sent them fleeing to hide, and later the servants and house dog scattered them again. Shaken, the country mouse grabbed her bag and umbrella to leave. “You may have luxuries I lack,” she said, “but I’ll take my plain food and peaceful life in the country over fear in yours.”
